My Love

As the DJ came back on Cameron hit the off button, slightly stunned. Was that the miracle he had just asked for? He had wanted to see God’s love; could that have been a sign? No, he finally decided, walking out of the room. After all, it was only a song; he hadn’t seen God’s love actually displayed. Yes. Just a mere coincidence. Still thinking those thoughts he was interrupted by the ringing of the phone. Both eager and hesitant to answer he reached for it, hoping it wasn’t some credit card company.

“Hello?” He said.

“Mr. Johnson? This is Bayville Heights hospital, you might want to come in, your wife has come out of her coma.”

“Sh–she h-has?” He asked his voice cracking.

“Yes sir, and she asked for you.”

Cameron’s eyes started to fill with tears, and he sank down to the floor still holding the telephone, crying tears of joy.

“Sir?” The aid asked, not sure exactly what was going on.

“I’l—I’ll be right over.” Cameron told her, wiping the tears from his eyes, desperately trying not to cry. Hanging up the tears continued to roll down his cheeks, great happiness flooding him.

“God… oh God…” He said through his tears. “I’m sorry!” Sorrow wrenched his heart, pained from all times he had turned his back on his creator. Time seemed to have stopped, as he sat there, crying, repenting, running back to his father.

Getting up off the floor he dashed to his room he grabbing the Bible off the floor, intent on reading it as soon as possible; but first he had to see his wife. Bolting out the house, keys in hand, he jumped in the car, started it and peeled out of the driveway. It felt like the longest drive to the hospital he had ever taken, the speed limit seemed so slow. Finally pulling into the hospital parking lot he rushed in, brushing past people to sign in, so he could be taken to the ICU. As he followed the nurse his heart was beating rapidly, anxious to not only see her, but to share the news of what had just happened.

Reaching her room he stood in the doorway for just a minute, watching Hannah breath in and out with the help of oxygen. She looked up and saw him, a thin but joyous smile spreading across her face. His eyes filling with tears again he walked over to her bedside, placing his hand on hers, the tears now streaming down his face.

“Hannah,” he managed, choking on the tears. He desperately wanted to hug her, but the tubes going into her body prevented that, and her broken ribs wouldn’t take it to kindly. “I–I, love you.” He told her, joy filling his voice, “I l-love you too.” She said back, her voice shaking a bit. “I have something I want to tell you, something that happened just today…” Cameron said, trailing off. “No.” Hannah replied, her voice still not quite steady. “I n-need to tell you something first.” Cameron’s head shook quickly, listening intently to his wife.

“While I was sleeping…I saw–I saw Jesus.” Tears forming in her eyes she continued. “He told me, to, to tell you that, that he loves you.”

As tears fell down her cheeks, Cameron stood there in disbelief, the tears that he had flowed before now gushed as he held his wife’s hand. It was true; the love of God would never end. Never.

“I–I–I know.” He finally managed. Oh God you are so wonderful! He shouted with his mind.God! Even if everything goes wrong, you still love me! But everything will be ok…

Back at the Johnson residence, the phone rang again and again, before switching over to the answering machine.

Hello, you have reached the Johnson’s. Unfortunately we are unable to come to the phone at this time, but if you leave a detailed message with your name and number right after the beep, we will get back to you as soon as we are able. Thanks.” *BEEP*

“Hello Mr. Johnson, this is Steven Newman from Computer Regeneration.  I am calling about the job you recently applied and then were interviewed for.  The interview process has concluded and we have reached a hiring decision.  I would appreciate a return call so that I can discuss this decision with you.”
