Calvary's Tree

On Calvary’s tree Pure Innocence died
With two condemned thieves on either side.
He had no sin, no guilt on His part
Yet He took my sins, which broke God’s heart.

He was not guilty, yet mocked, beaten and bruised
For, God’s permission, Satan took and abused.
Love was nailed to a cross, not a comfort in sight
And being so tortured He was dead before night.

But He promised He’d rise and this promise He kept
Yet for three days, oh, His loved ones they wept.
Still, in the tomb, He was fighting my war
He was the victor, and He rose up once more.

The angel did tell them, “He is not here,
“He rose, like He promised! Go tell, have no fear!”
He is risen indeed, no more reason to cry
So sinner, accept Him and receive eternal life!

Lessons I've Learned

He taught me to love
But I brought Him hate
He taught me to live
But I sealed His fate
He taught me to share
But still I thought of me
That's why in the Garden
He prayed on His knees
He taught me to believe
I almost lost His faith in me
He taught me to pray
Though I thought only of me
He taught me to follow
Then I let Him lead
He taught me to endure
He'd give me all I need
He taught me to trust
I hold tight to His hand
And now I teach others to love -
That's His command!
