Adventures of a Darkened Moon
Chapter 3: The Date
From that day on, I saw Matthew almost every day. A month later Matthew got me going to church and soon I was baptized.
‘Most girls like Matthew because he’s cute and popular. Rumors are going around school that I’m only hanging around him because of that. I hang out with him because he’s the most amazing person I’ve ever met. Every time I look at him, I get a warm feeling in my stomach. I wonder what it is.’ I thought to myself as I was walking back to the orphanage.
“Hey Sam! Wait up!” I jolted as Matthew ran up.
“Matt? What are you doing here? Your house is the other way.”
He looked at me “I know. It’s Halloween and I was wondering…” He blushed and put his head down “would you…uh… what I’m saying is…um…”
I lifted his head up “What is it?”
“Will you go to the Halloween dance with me tonight?” He spoke fast. I blushed in shock
“Matt… Did you just… ask me out on a date?” He was blushing like crazy.
“Well…Yeah” He was so embarrassed he couldn’t look at me. “Sorry if I put you in a weird situation.” He said walking off.
“I guess she doesn’t like me. I knew I shouldn’t have asked her. Now she probably won‘t talk to me again” He kicked at the ground glumly with both hands in his pockets.
“Matthew!” I ran after him and grabbed his arm.
“Huh? What is it?” He asked still blushing.
“Don’t you want an answer?”
“Well, Yeah…I guess I do”
I blushed “I wasn’t in a weird situation though. Of course I’ll go. I didn’t have any plans anyway.”
He smiled “See you tonight then?”
I kissed him on the cheek “See you tonight” I turned around and headed back to the orphanage.
“Yeah!” Matthew ran to his house and called his best friend Cole.
“So how’d it go Matt?”
“She said yes!”
. . . . . . . . . . . .
“What are you smiling for Samantha?” asked Ms. Bean as I walked in the room.
“Ms. Bean, you are not going to believe this!”
She rose an eyebrow “Believe what, Child?”
I took a deep breath “You know Matthew Allen?” She nodded “Well, he and I have been friends for a few months. For some reason, whenever I look at him, at get this warmish feeling in my stomach. Well, anyway, today when I was walking home he ran up. I was somewhat surprised because he lives the other way. He was blushing like crazy. He was hesitant for a while, but then he asked me fast if I’d like to go to the Halloween Dance with him. After the dance there’s going to be a movie and a walk through haunted house. Can I go Ms. Bean? Please?”
“That depends. What is the movie rated?”
“The movie? I think its PG 13.”
She thought for a moment “I wouldn’t allow you to go…” I hung my head “But… Since you are 13 and Matthew is a Christian… I’ll allow you to go.”
“Really? Thank you Ms. Bean!” I ran up to my room to get ready.
Later that night Matt came to pick me up. Ms. Bean answered the door. “Come in Matthew. Samantha will be down in a moment. He came in and sat down when he heard singing. He smiled as he listened.
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise him all ye creatures here below
Praise him above ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
“Samantha, Matthew is here.” Ms. Bean said through the door.
“Okay Ms. Bean, I’ll be right down” Ms. Bean left as I put the finishing touches on my hair.
“Whoa” Matt stood up as soon as he saw me come down the stairs, mouth wide open. I was wearing a midnight blue dress with my long blond/brunette hair in a ponytail I also had on a silver butterfly necklace and a charm bracelet that Matt had given me.
“Sam, You look… amazing!” Matt said smiling.
“Thank You, you do to! Well, lets go!” I said pulling Matt through the door. “Bye Ms. Bean!”
Matt and I couldn’t think of anything to say as we walked to school.
“Hey Matt…”
“Yeah?”
“I was just thinking…Why did you ask me out? I mean, I’ve only known you for a few months.”
He stopped and blushed “Well…your one of the most amazing girls I ever met. When I first met you, you didn’t want to talk to anyone and never smiled. I fell for you the first time I saw you smile.”
I blushed “Really?”
“Really.”
That warm feeling inside my stomach was back. Matt held my hand the rest of the way there.
After the dance we watched ‘Grudge 2’. Matt and me sat in the back against the wall. About halfway through the movie I buried my face in Matts’ arm.
He laughed “You okay?”
I hugged him. “yeah, I’m fine. Just a little tired”
He held me close. After going through the haunted house he walked me home.
“Thank you Matt, I had a wonderful time!”
He blushed “Your Welcome. Maybe you’d like to catch a movie some time?”
“Yeah that’d be great. Good night Matt”
“Good night Sam”
