A Treasure Unrevealed

A continuing story by Alesha: Chapter 3

He stayed with her through it all. He held her hand and comforted her by whispering promises of Gods’ love and faithfulness into her ears and heart. Of course no one but her ever saw him. But that was okay, he was only there for her at the moment. He knew that she would have a long journey ahead of her filled with pain and hardships. But he also knew that there would also be joy, love, forgiveness, and great happiness. It would all end well, and she would be stronger after it all. And he and the loving Father would be with her the entire time. Helping her continue on when all hope seemed lost.

Pain shattered Emma’s world as voices crashed into her consciousness,  “Give me the oxygen! We have to stable her!!! Quickly! We’re losing her!!!”
But all she could see was him, him and his wonderful eyes filled with kindness and overflowing with a perfect love. He smiled down at her and held her hand as another wave of pain wracked her body.
“It will be okay.” he whispered into her heart, and she believed him.
Peace once again washed over her as the voices faded.

Emma could hear a soft “bleep, bleep, bleep,” as she struggled to open her eyes. Unwillingly, but slowly they opened.
As her vision came into focus all she could see was white, the first thought that came into her head was, “I’m in heaven.” but the painful stinging in her eyes from making contact with the bright lights told her she was not.
She searched the room around her and tried to make out where the sound was coming from. Finally she located the source of the sound, a heart rate machine.
Then it all came flooding back to her; the pie, the ice-cream, the grocery store, the boy, the gun, the pain, and the man. The man!
She searched the room frantically trying to see if he was in the room. But all she could see was the sterile hospital instruments and white walls. She decided to try and stand up; maybe she could go and try to find him. She went to move, only to discover that she couldn’t!
Panic laced her chest as she realized she was unable to move her legs or arms! What was wrong with her?! Why couldn’t she move?!?
Fear squeezed at her heart, maybe she could call a doctor and he could tell her what was wrong with her. Her first try at calling ended, resulting in a croak. She decided to try again, and this time was rewarded with a soft “help.”
She realized that no one was going to hear her if that was all the noise she could make.
She looked around to see if there was anything she could make more noise with. As she searched around she noticed a big red button on the side of her bed. It was just out of reach of her hand.  She tried to move her hand towards it but once again, could get no response. Panic once again began to squeeze around her chest.
Then the picture of the man flashed across her vision, and peace gently flowed over her as his words rang softly in her ears, “it will be okay.”
She sighed, “Okay Jesus,” she prayed softly to her heavenly Father, “I don’t know what going on right now, but I really need your help, please bring someone to help me or give me the strength to reach this button.”
Filled with a renewed sense of hope she once again reached for the button willing her hand to move.
A finger twitched and her tiny stream of hope surged into a raging river coursing through her at this small accomplishment.
She willed her hand to move towards the button, and slowly, ever so slowly, her hand began to move. After what seemed like hours, her hand finally reached the button and she pushed it.
A loud siren immediately filled the air. She flinched at the noise. But as suddenly as it had started, it stopped. Almost immediately, the door on the far end of the room opened, and a nurse rushed into the room!
Her eyes opened wide in wonder as she saw that her patient Emma Discratly was awake. She turned around and ran out of the room calling for the doctor.
The door closed behind her, and once again all was quiet. Emma laid there silently wondering what had just happened. She thought to push the button again, but the thought of hearing the harsh noise did not appeal to her. So, closing her eyes, she decided to wait patiently.
Almost as soon as she came to this conclusion, the door swished opened once again, and she opened her eyes to find herself face to face with the pair of most piercing green eyes she had ever seen.
