Relaya knelt down by Peter. Checking his pulse and breathing every few seconds, praying that she had the right road and that he would be ok. That was when she heard the siren. She jumped to her feet, partly in joy for them being there… but also in the hope it wasn’t too late for Peter. She then ran down meet them and showed them up to Peter… that was the longest ride she had ever had. She kept wondering when they would arrive at the hospital and if Peter was ok. Inside, the ambulance crew kept on rushing around Peter and repeatedly saying stuff to each other about how serious stuff was etc.
Once they had arrived she ran behind the people as they rushed Peter into A&E. But she was forbidden from going inside with Peter. And there she was again. In a chair, waiting on whether a close persons life was going to be saved or not. Whilst she sat there, all she could do was pray. But a creeping feeling left her heart paralysed. That was when the man in white came up to her.
“We were able to get you’re friend into a stable condition, but we are unsure about if he will come around.” She looked up at him.
“May I go in?” She asked. The man nodded. Slowly she lifted herself from the chair and walked inside… There he was, in the cold room with the only sound being a heart monitor.
"Peter?” She asked putting her hand onto his. His eye’s flickered open.
“Hey Relaya?” He said weakly.
“You’re going to be fine ok? Just fine.” She said with a lump in her throat. He then took a deep breath.
“Relaya, you know as well as I, I’m going to be fine. But not today, and tomorrow will never come…”
“No Peter, don’t be silly…” She said her eye’s holding back her tears.
“Relaya, just like you I’ve had a dream. You remember telling me one about some man? Don’t you realise that was your father? Mine, mine was today. I was warned about it a while ago and today… well today is that day.” But before Relaya could speak he slumped and a dominant flat beeping noise could be heard. She ran out and got a nurse… who was followed by various other medical staff. However soon after they came out. Faces dull but soon off into different directions. The last one out came up to her.
“I’m afraid we lost him, but just after he handed us this.” She passed her a small creased note, and then walked away.
Relaya opened it and inside were the words:
I’m sorry Relaya, but I just want you to know that… I love you.
She wiped a loose tear from her face and walked away, she had been through so much and it was time for her to go.
The wind whipped through her long silky brown hair as the glint of the wakening streetlight hit the corner of her eye. She looked up at the sky as it turned from an angry red to shadow blue. Her foot etched away from the tiny pebbles that lined the plain brick wall. She turned. Into the distance was her future, and she wasn’t going to let anybody hold her back.
